Saturday’s Bus Trip and Tailgate for Mets-Phils game

Posted by Nick "Beerman" Staskin, Tue, August 17, 2010 12:28 PM

Nick the BeermanOn Saturday, Phillies Nation and a fleet of buses made the trek up the Jersey Turnpike to watch Doc operate on the New York Mets. Once again, he did not disappoint.

The weather could not have been better, as we once again helped embarrass a fellow NL East rival (after witnessing a Ryan Zimmerman walk-off on our last trip), turning a Phillies road game into a neutral playing field. That weather was perfect for a classic Phillies Nation tailgate, which much like Doc never lets you down.

The Mets don’t let you grill in their lots, but that wasn’t a problem thanks to a delivery of 200 Philly cheesesteaks from Shorty’s in Manhattan. Add in hundreds of Yuenglings, Miller Lites, and over a dozen varieties of craft beers and we were good to go. There wasn’t much missing from this glorious Saturday, except maybe a semblance of a rivalry. Brian even handed out keychains to Mets fans as a sign of goodwill…and a little pity.

In recent years, the Phillies successes coupled with the Mets failures has taken some luster off the rivalry. However, when Mets fans try to bring it, Phillies fans aren’t ones to sit on their hands and take it quietly.

During the tailgate, one Met fan was attempting to heckle a gentleman on the trip. The gentleman’s wife did not take kindly to this and you know what she did? SHE SLAPPED THE METS FAN IN THE FACE WITH A CHEESESTEAK! Stereotypical? Maybe. But think about it. A Phillies fan hit a Mets fan in the face with a cheesesteak. Classic.

Citi Field

Eventually we all made it into the game, and once you get passed the 652,248,117 advertisements splattered across CitiField it is actually a beautiful ballpark that more than holds its own against the newest crop of stadiums to sprout up in Major League Baseball.

On the field, Roy Halladay had his A-game going and the Mets couldn’t play defense. So after just two-and-a-half hours, we were walking out of the stadium with a 4-0 victory. Ryan Madson provided some ninth-inning drama, but just for entertainment’s sake.

Thanks to everyone who attended and for helping to make it another successful road trip for Phillies Nation. This season over 1,000 Phillies fans traveled with us on our the three trips. With two of them featuring Roy Halladay starts, you couldn’t ask for much more.

Purchase Tailgate Party Tickets in DC

Posted by Brian Michael, Wed, July 21, 2010 12:33 AM

We are sold out of tickets to the Nationals game. You may still purchase a tailgate ticket.

If you are meeting us at the tailgate, the lot is located at Potomac Ave and South Capitol, SW (1620 S. Capitol St.) – across from home plate at Nationals Park [view map]. For DC locals, it is recommended you take the Metro (Green Line to the Navy Yard stop). If you are driving, as you head south on South Capitol Street towards Nationals Park, turn right on P Street, left on Half Street and left on R St and you will see the big “PARKING” sign among the construction sites. Do NOT go over the Frederick Douglas Bridge – the tailgate is below the bridge. Parking in the lot is $15 and we’re aiming to start the party around 5 pm. The lot is slightly less than a block from the stadium.

The menu will feature BBQ favorites (chopped chicken, pork, and beef), buttered corn, mac & cheese, and cole slaw along with beer and water. Everyone will need to check in with a Phillies Nation representative, so please bring your ID and although a print out of your receipt is not required, it will help expedite the process.

Tickets to the tailgate party are $12.

Photos from CBP Tour and McFadden’s Party

Posted by Brian Michael, Sat, June 19, 2010 11:12 AM

The evening began with a fascinating tour of Citizens Bank Park and ended with McFadden’s girls pour shots down our throats. Darren Daulton was there, and to top it all off Nick “The Beerman” proposed to his girlfriend who he met on our Mets Bus Trip last year (she said yes!). Oh yea, and the Phillies beat the Yankees in convincing fashion behind Kyle Kendrick.

Party for Harry Kalas Statue at McFadden’s

Posted by Brian Michael, Fri, April 23, 2010 12:29 PM

Harry Kalas StatuePhillies games will never quite be the same with the loss of Harry Kalas. He was a true Philadelphia legend and the one constant comfort for Phillies fans over the years.

The day after Harry died, a Philadelphia Phillies fan started a petition on Facebook seeking support for a statue to be erected in Kalas’ honor and memory.  They’re working to raise $80,000 to build the memorial Harry deserves and will present it as a gift to the Phillies once it’s complete.  They’re over 25% of the way there.

On Friday April 23rd, a party will be thrown in Harry’s honor at McFadden’s at Citizens Bank Ballpark to raise money for the statue. The festivities start at 7:30 and Phillies-D’backs game will be on the TVs at 9:40. Tickets are $10 in advance and you must be 21 years old or over to attend.  Here’s what’s on offer:

  • $3 Bud/Bud Light all night
  • $4 Mixed Drinks/Wine
  • $1 Hot Dogs
  • Joe Conklin will open the event
  • Philadelphia Lingerie Football Team appearances
  • Local celebrities
  • Tons of autographed stuff for silent auction
  • Chance to win pair of tickets for the Phillies Nation 8/14 trip against the Mets
  • Live Music by HOLT 45!

For tickets to the event, click here.

If you can’t make it on April 23rd but still want to make a donation to this worthy cause, click here.
