Minor Leagues: Zagurski’s Ks; Escalona’s BS

ZagurskiThe big-league club isn’t the only one to let up a late lead. Here’s a look inside the minors:

  • The IronPigs lost, 5-4, because recently demoted reliever Sergio Escalona allowed a home run to Daniel (don’t call me Roger) Dorn. Kyle Kendrick allowed three runs on seven hits in seven innings, while Lou Marson drove in two and John Mayberry Jr. went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
  • The Reading Phillies defeated New Hampshire, 6-1, thanks to a nice outing by Michael Stutes. He went 6.2 innings, allowing just a run on four hits while striking out four. He did walk five, however. Mike Zagurski was very impressive, striking out five of the six batters he faced in his two innings. Michael Taylor got his obligatory hit and RBI in the game, while Brian Stavisky drove in three.
  • Clearwater was shut out by Fort Myers, 1-0. Drew Naylor had an exceptional outing, striking out eight and allowing just five hits in eight innings. But Sam Walls got two outs before allowing the game-winning hit. Michael Durant went 2-for-4 in the losing cause.
  • Finally, Lakewood beat Delmarva, 6-5. Steve Susdorf went 3-for-5 with two doubles while Anthony Gose had a 2-for-4 day. 24-year-old Ryan Bergh pitched two perfect innings for the win.

    great news about zagurski and naylor, i’m really pulling for both guys to be members of the big club down the line. zagurski sooner than naylor, obviously.
