   Pardon my ignorance but is Stutes a starter? I am thinking yes but 3 wins and 17 innings is not a lot for a starter.

   Making the jump from Lakewood to Reading, they’re pacing him. About six innings per start. Better than the other Phils pitchers.

   Yeah, he seems to be a steal. BA did a chat on Phils prospects last year and Ben Badler said his stuff is absolutely filthy. Plus slider, fast ball at 95, and an average change. He’s done nothing but dominate since he’s become a pro. I think you could conceivably have a rotation looking like this in two years.

   Who is Worley? Just checking. I think we have a lot to be excited about with our prospects. But no Happ or two years Dan? What about Savery? And does anyone know how that one guy who was beasting in Lakewood last year is doing I forget his name

    This kid is impressive. I think he’s only got a handful of starts left at AA if he keeps it up, and then it’s to AAA he goes until the all star break. If starters are struggling and Happ and/or Carrasco can’t pin the 5th spot down, this kid will likely get the look. At any rate, I’d bet a strong showing in AAA this year will likely mean Myers may get the Pat Burrell treatment in the off season.

    wow, Jamie…you have Stutes possibly replacing Myers in the rotation next year? or my reading comprehension less than stellar?

    if it’s the former, you’re nuts (but i love the wishful thinking)

    the bottom line of all of this is, that for the first time in my life as a phil’s fan (I’m 33), the phils have MULTIPLE young arms at different levels all turning in promising returns. Savery is arguably the 7th or 8th most promising arm in their system right now, and even he is far from a lost cause. He’s been just ok at Reading after spending all year being just ok at Clearwater last year.

    ed go to phuturephillies all they talk about is prospects. Stutes was a eleventh round draft choice, with a good fastball and breaking stuff, I believe he had some injury problems. The guy to really get excited about is Drabek he is a number one with all the tools . Plus fastball up to 97 and 6-12 curve, and has the bloodline. I believe between Carrasco and Drabek, Myers is gone and so Maybe Blanton. Also I must say I was wrong about Bradley, I wanted him to come here but two weeks into the season he is starting trouble. what a air head. Also to hamels Savery was pick over porcello who is starting for detroit and is a true stud, Savery comes out of rice who has a history of ruining there pitchers just like teams shy away from stanford players, Because the coach changes there approach and has been hard to reajust to majors, Taylor who the phillies sign struggle for a while now he starting to get it. Savery is nothing to brag about the only thing in his favor is he is lefthanded

    hamels’ left hand, thank you for calling me nuts. apparently you haven’t met geoff yet. Oh, and by the way, Myers is a free agent next year, so he may not be back in Philly regardless of whether we want him back or not. It’s all about the $$, you know. But yes, if the Phils have a logpile of young arms (Carrasco, Happ, Stutes, and hell, even Kendrick if he’s pitching better), they will probably not sign Myers to a 3 or 4 year contract, as it would likely be $40-50 million. You may think i’m nuts, but that’s fine…we’ll see.

    mikemike, thanks for also mentioning Drabeck and Savery. Those guys (at least Drabeck) are likely two years away – or less – depending on injuries and how they adjust to higher level pitching. Moyer is signed for one more year, although he may retire this off-season (who knows), and we have the rights to Blanton through 2010, because he doesn’t become a free agent until 2011. The Phils aren’t going to cut him for christsakes, and the only way they’ll get rid of him is via trade. So that leaves us with Hamels, UNKNOWN, Moyer?, Blanton, and UNKNOWN. They may resign Myers, but I’d be surprised.

    I have met Geoff. He’s certifiable. And I didn’t call you nuts for saying Myers will be gone after this season. That’s sensible.

    What was nuts is offering the possibility Mike Stutes replacing him in the rotation next year.

    Carrasco, Happ, Drabek, Kendrick, are all names ahead of Stutes on the likelihood list.

    And the Phils will resign Myers for sure if he rebounds and happens to pitch like he did the second half of ‘08 (it is still April, remember). But if they are unable to repeat as division winners in ‘09, and revenues begin to shrink, they will have to replace the Myers’, Feliz’s, and the like of the world with cheap, controlled talent. Their payroll will be lower in ‘10 than this year, even with the built-in raises certain players are due to get. Just a hunch.

    But it’s why Carrasco, Donald, Marson, Drabek, Stutes, Worley, D’Arnaud, Knapp, Taylor, Brown, and even Mayberry are under watchful eyes by a bunch of ‘phans.’ The phils are looking to add from within over the next few offseasons, imo.

    Brett Myers wont be here next year even if he wants to be.

    Barring trades, the rotation by the end of this season will be

    hamels/myers/blanton/happ/carrasco

    moyer and park will be out

    next year with myers gone, youll have

    hamels/blanton/happ/carrasco/one of stutes, brummett, or drabek

    the only way that this logjam of young arms will be broken up is if they trade them as a package for some sort of front end starting pitcher or third baseman of some sort.

    If Carrasco, Worley, Stutes, and Drabek continue the progression trend they’re on, we are looking at a very young starting rotation in coming years…or trade bait.

    in terms of the outfield, it seems dominic brown will be the replacement for raul ibanez after his three year deal is up. i dont think the top 3 outfielders will change much until then. werth is signed for two years, victorino will get some sort of three yera extension. mayberry will come up to be a 4th outfielder. but dominic brown and michael taylor need 2-3 years.

    it seems the phillies will be starting park tonight (i dunno why, but he wont get many more chances before ja happ takes over) vs Voltron for the marlins. Voltron pitched well against us last year.

    You can’t just take out Park after two games Geoff. We should have taken Hamels out weeks again if we go by your logic. I’m glad you don’t run the team.

    hamels, I agree with what you said. I think we are both on the same wavelength after all, but I guarantee you that if Stutes continues his torrid pace and has a good Spring Training next year, it won’t matter if he’s behind Carrasco, Happ, or any of those others. It will be hard for the Phils to keep him out of the rotation. That’s a good problem to have, though.

    In the end, I agree with what GM-Carson said – I’m sure a couple of these arms could be used as trade bait for a strong 3B or starting pitcher should the Phils feel the need to pull some sort of trade in August.

As one of the poster here stated that it’s only been two starts for Park. The starters are in place and rotation is set once Hamels is 100% healthy and in form. Barring injuries, this is what we can expect to see at least for the first half of the season.
