It’s nice to see that there are some real prospects on the AAA squad this year unlike last year.
April 6th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Will Donald play 3B?
April 6th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
They dont have a true 3rd baseman other than tiffee and hes on the dl to start the year so i think donald will see time there.
April 6th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
That’s a decent team with real minor league credentials for a change, there’s almost a dozen guys there who could come up and do more than warm the bench. Am really interested to see how the Pigs bullpen shapes up and what role the guys with a shot at getting up a call-up will be given.
April 6th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Donald will probably play some 3B until Tiffee comes back. I still think the Phillies view him as a nice trading chip. Since he has such a good bat, he holds more value at SS than 3B.
April 6th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
Does anyone know what the deal is with Zagurski? Is he playing this year or is he DL’ed?
April 6th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Zagurski is still on the DL as far as I know. He could come back later in the season.
April 6th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Zagurski is DL’ed, but he’s not listed as on the Ironpigs DL, like Mathieson.
April 6th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
Anyone know if there’s any chance that Mathieson, and all his promise, will make it back to the Phil’s soon?
April 7th, 2009 at 12:05 am
With mathieson, when he does come back to play, youre talking about a year from then before you can tell what direction hes headed in..same with zagurski. injuries that serious really derail development. itll take drabek and extra year or two to start to give us an indication of what hell really be like. hopefully this year he can make big strides.
carpenter seems like trade bait. donald will play here if hes able to play third – and youll see them try to find that out right away in AAA. marson will obviously get called up at some point, same with mayberry and carrasco. majewski will be the first bullpen guy called up.
April 7th, 2009 at 12:24 am
Geoff obviously knows everything
April 7th, 2009 at 8:36 am
From one Jeff to another Geoff, That was well put!
April 7th, 2009 at 10:48 am
What happened to Giles? Did I miss his release?
April 7th, 2009 at 10:59 am
Yea he was released with a week left of ST. I agree with the possibilities on the callups Geoff made. Carpenter because of his awful year last year is in the same boat as Kyle Kendrick, lot of people to climb over to get a shot now. Mathieson i think is closer to a return than Zagurski who I haven’t heard throwing even long toss yet. Mathieson on the other hand is close to being ready.

April 9th, 2009 at 12:55 pm
With a VORP of 0.7 and his contract up this year, who is going to play third base next year? No, Donald is no trading chip. Like most teams the Phillies biggest need is a top of the order type pitcher so it is hardly likely that Donald could get them that.
Their next most pressing needs are a catcher and third baseman that can provide them with some offensive punch. With feliz being among the top 6 or 7 defensive third baseman it might be a good idea to see how Donald handles the position full time. He says he is most comfortable as short, but I have seen reports that suggest his best position might be third base.
Having Donald, Marson and Carassco in Lehigh Valley may not be a bad thing if it spurs some more effort from the teams current underachievers. If not, we could see one, two or three of them up this summer.
