At age 43, Jamie Moyer arrived in Philadelphia. He began his career 20 years before — the kid from Sellersville started opposite Steve Carlton, as his Cubs played his beloved Phils. After that he went to Arlington, Saint Louis, Baltimore, Boston and Seattle, living highs and lows before settling in as a reliable pitcher, a gun-slinger of 80 mph fastballs and 70 mph curves. He arrived home during a stretch run in 2006, stayed on to record a 14-12 mark in 2007, then showed consistency with a strong 2008 — 16-7, 3.71 ERA. Moyer started game three of the 2008 World Series, getting a no-decision, but pitching very strong against a hungry Tampa Bay lineup. The memorable moment of that game: Moyer diving and flipping, simutaneously, to make a play at first base. And he did all of that while wildly sick.

Comment: A sentimental choice, Moyer deserves to be on the list because he’s been good more than 80 percent of the time. His numbers might not stand out, but he’s been the most consistent member of the Phillies since 2006. Truly a legend in his home.

    His diving effort, and surprisingly KISS-like tongue wag, bumps him up a few slots on my list, but thats eggnog and Christmas sentiment I’m sure … here’s hopin’ he has a few more good years in him.

    Moyer is without a doubt one of the great Phillies! Just the story alone of the hometown hero pitching in the World Series (and quite well I might add) is one for the list! Aside from being a great pitcher, he is a good man. I work as a bartender and I donate all my tips from the Christmas Eve shift to charity. The Moyer Foundation is this year’s pick for a whole host of reasons.

    It is impossible not to like and respect Moyer. Determination and grit are his traits and I would love to see him have two more productive years with the Phils and be part of the Phillies Hall of Fame.

    Has anyone heard of the meet and greet with Cole Hamels at Citizens Bank Park? It seemed pretty cool that you would receive a painting as well as Cole’s signature. I heard about it on MeetCole.com

    should be higher. i don’t care if he’s only been here for two years or whatever, he’s one of the most important pieces to maybe the best phils team ever.
